A sudden change of orders sends terraforming engineer Bill Waltham to the backwater planet Dilbia to teach the bearlike natives the basics of techno-farming. But the Dilbians want nothing to do with techno-farming, and Waltham is challenged to a duel that will decide the fate of the entire world.
